Personally, I don't mind when someone holds the door for me, but only if they also allow me to hold the door for them sometimes. To me, it's about extending basic politeness to everyone regardless of gender. I'd rather not have preferential treatment though :)

You're a piece of garbage. Your mother should have aborted you.

Does that offend you? It shouldn't. I didn't mean it. It was a joke. Get over it, you hypersensitive wuss!

Thank you for bringing your doubtlessly enormous penis in here and explaining to women that sexism does not exist.

This would have been a better comment if you had left this part out: "Please check your female privilege at the door." What privilege would that be?

I don't get it either. He seems well meaning, but I every time I run into him, he starts on about how he's a feminist and doesn't understand why women get angry that he holds doors open for them. It is as though my being female triggers this. And it does come off as creepy when he does it. A little like if I were at a convention, turned to the guy next to me and said, "The last time I was here, a guy tried to rub up against me. I like men and all, don't get me wrong, but why are they constantly thinking about sex?"

This post *is* about "Golden Uterus Complex" since that was apparently the trigger for the post. You start off interpreting a targeted whine as a gripe against women in general, then proceed from there to greater heights of generalisation.

In general, women are just as sexist as men. It's just that when you're the minority in a particular workplace, you get to see a lot more of the sexism from the people who are the majority in that workplace.

Rude people of both genders will talk over someone else, partly because they're attention seeking, partly because they're trying to establish a pecking order, partly because they're just plain inconsiderate. Just talk right back over them: give it as good as you get it.

Please check your female privilege at the door. Yes, that door that I'm holding open for you, not because you're a woman but because you happen to be close enough behind me that the door won't be closed by the time you get there if I let it go.

Just remember that you catch more flies with honey than vinegar. Spend more time talking to the people who don't behave offensively. Make the attempts to laugh at the guy's sexist behaviour (and make it clear what you're laughing at) and take the conversation somewhere pleasant.

Mark isn't making a sweeping and dismissive generalisation about women though; he's narrowed it down to a small specific group of women who have a negative trait.

Yes, this negative trait, "Golden Uterus Complex", is a snide term. But...

This term in no way refers to all women, or all women who have given birth; but only to those who believe they are the end-all-be-all just because they procreated.

I'm not understanding the thing about the Python developer and holding doors, unless he's being really creepy about it. Being raised in the South, it was made abundantly clear to me and every other male my age that not holding the door for a woman was extremely rude and socially unacceptable. Is this belief viewed as a problem elsewhere?
